General Cemetery of the City of Mérida, Yucatán

The General Cemetery of the City of Merida, Yucatan is built on terrain that was the hacienda of San Antonio X-Coholté, located on the Camino Real to San Francisco de Campeche, and inaugurated on November 3, 1821, being blessed by His Reverend Excellency Bishop Pedro Agustín Estévez y Ugarte, XXXII; being governor, captain general and intendant field marshal Juan Maria Echeverri, last spanish governor of the peninsula. The first burial made in this cemetery was that of Lieutenant Felipe Trejo on Tuesday, November 6, 1821.

El Cementerio General de la Ciudad de Mérida, Yucatán se encuentra construido en terrenos de lo que fue la hacienda ganadera de San Antonio X-Coholté, ubicado en el Camino Real a San Francisco de Campeche, y se inaugura el 3 de noviembre de 1821, siendo bendecido por Su Excelencia Reverendísima Mons. Pedro Agustín Estévez y Ugarte, XXXII; siendo gobernador, capitán general e intendente el mariscal de campo Juan María Echeverri, último gobernante español de la península. El primer entierro realizado en este camposanto fue el del teniente Felipe Trejo el martes 6 de noviembre de 1821.
